Ingredients
930g bramley apples
6 cardamom cloves crushed
½ tbsp mixed spice
2 tbsp caster sugar
200g plain flour
85g butter or margarine
3 tbsp rolled oats
30g brown sugar
Directions
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Wash, peel, core and dice the apples into small chunks (be sure to keep the peel & place it in a separate bowl).
In a saucepan, mix together the chopped apples, caster sugar and spices until the apples have softened.
In another bowl, add flour, brown sugar, oats and cubed butter. With your fingertips, rub together the mix until it resembles breadcrumbs.
Transfer the softened apples onto the bottom of a baking dish and sprinkle the crumble topping.
Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
(Optional) mix together a little melted butter/oil, sugar and apple peel. Cook in the oven for 10-15 minutes. Once crisp/cooked, place on top of the cooked crumble.
